... who knew that someday was today?! Here's Joey in his "Grandma's Prince Charming" outfit he got from Busza for Christmas. He's just too adorable. The onesie only made it until lunchtime. But he's still my (and Busza's and Nana's) Prince Charming.
It's been relatively nice here, especially for February, so we took a walk this morning. Unfortunately the rain didn't quite hold off long enough, so we had to cut it a little short. (Don't worry, we didn't really get wet.) Joey fell asleep as we were turning back on to Orchard, but didn't stay asleep too long. Fortunately, after lunch today, he decided to take another nap. He's just so cute when he's sleeping!
We made a quick trip to Pennsylvania this weekend. Joey's a great traveler. Slept almost the entire time on the plane, and only cried when he woke up, and even then it was maybe one or two little peeps. Everyone just couldn't believe how great he was. It was a little hard traveling sans husband, especially when I changed my ticket about 2 hours before I had to be at the airport and was rushing around to get everything packed, but somehow we managed. Nana and Pop-Pop were so excited to see Joey, and so sad to leave him at the airport. I mean, they could barely manage even half a smile when I took this photo!
Here we are on the airplane ride back. There were only about 10 of us on the plane, so Joey got his own seat. I held him for take-off and landing, but after he fell asleep, I put my coat and a blanket on that seat, so he could lay down a bit (and I could rest my arms). I think he's already ready to get back on the plane to see Nana and Pop-Pop - I know Mom is!
Joey's learning to associate the word kick with the action. (I was going to say I'm training him, but that makes it sound like he's dog learning new tricks.) It's not perfect, but he does get excited when I get excited when he kicks when I say kick. And I'm hoping positive reinforcement works.
So we're feeling under the weather today, but that hasn't stopped my cutie from being cute! And giggle-y! We're also practicing rolling over. We start on his back, he'll hold onto my finger with one hand, and I'll pull over his upper body. Then he'll kick his legs over. If he gets most of the way, but not all of the way over, then he can flip himself back onto his back. Soon he'll be doing it all himself.
Oh, and the above picture should explain the blog title. Thanks Aunt Katy and Ashtyn (and I think Nana/Aunt Robbie and Pop-Pop/Uncle Mike) for the cute onesie. See you in less than 72 hours!
Just a little preview of all the fun you'll have when we visit Pennsylvania. He's most talkative in the morning, so if you let me sleep in, I'll let you talk to him. He's not saying "Nana" yet, but he's getting close. But seriously, if he's making these noises, you may want to make sure you have a burp rag handy. Somewhere in all that blabber he's telling me he's going to spit up.
And you'll notice Ginny was very interested in what was going on.
Yes, more tummy time. Note that he's in a different outfit, though. Once again, his diaper "leaked". So I changed him from this brown outfit into the outfit above, and literally, not even ten minutes later, I had to take off his onesie from another diaper mishap. (I'll save you from the details on that one.)
These pics are from yesterday. I'm getting a little behind on posting, so don't be surprised if I post more later today from today.
In honor of pitchers and catchers reporting, and because I wasn't about to buy Joey anything pink or with hearts on it, this is our Valentine's Day outfit. (We're saving the Phillies outfit for when it's a little warmer, since it's only short sleeves.) Daddy was getting ready to leave for work, and saying good-bye. Not sure exactly what he was saying, but apparently it was funny.
And a big Congratulations! to our friends Joe and Angie on the birth of their son Samuel Joseph. (Yes! Another boy! We only need three more for a hockey team.) I guess the little guy couldn't wait to say Happy Valentine's Day to his parents - or Happy Anniversary! (He was four weeks early, and today just happens to be their 5th anniversary.)
I couldn't decide which one I liked better, so you get two pictures from today. Yes, more tummy time. Are you kidding? Now that he's getting close, I can't wait to see him roll over!! And the pictures of him just lying on his back are not nearly as interesting.
This picture is actually from yesterday. (Sorry. Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice were on last night, and I have my priorities.) Anyway, this was the third outfit Joey had on, not counting the pajamas he woke up in. The first two changes were due to leaky diapers. (I think he really needs to be in size 2, but we just bought a bunch of size 1 diapers, so we're trying to make them work.) He spit up really bad all over this one, and after that I just put him in his pajamas for the night. He's getting closer to rolling over; he just needs to kick his leg over. Funny, because the day before he had the kick down, and now he has the head and arm down. Now he just needs to put it all together!
Not the best picture of Joey, but that's not that point. Look at him! Look at that leg kicked up! He's almost there! We're doing more and more tummy time, and I just know he'll be rolling over before you know it.
Special thanks to Aunt Katy and Ashtyn for the great onesie.
This is pretty much how things go lately when I put Joey on the floor anywhere within eyeshot of the tv - he twists and turns and cranes so he can see the bright light. I can usually distract him with his toys, and if he's in his gym, he is content with things that are dangling in front of him. I just find it completely amusing. He definitely takes after his daddy. Drawn to the bright light like a mosquito to a trap.
I absolutely love dressing him up now. He's so cute in his little chinos. And I'm not sure if you can read his onesie, but it's perfect: "don't wake me ... I'll wake you." The funniest thing to me, though, is that he's growing out of his socks already. They're just so teeny-tiny, and the heels end up where his arches should be. (He's flat-footed like his daddy, so he doesn't really have arches.)
And in case you haven't seen them lately, here's a picture of those little piggies. So cute! (I promise, Mom, I put his socks right back on after I took this picture.)
It was a gorgeous day today. We went for an hour long walk. Joey fell asleep about ten minutes into it, and only woke up when I hit some really uneven pavement and almost landed him on his head. We're all OK now. And Ginny had fun, too.
The thaw finally came to Chicago today. At noon, our outside thermometer read 55. Fabulous. Unfortunately, Dad had to work today, something about a sales meeting. So I decided I would bundle up Joey (but not too much, since it wasn't really cold) and see if I couldn't take him and the dog for a walk. We were moderately successful. Ginny, of course, went absolutely crazy the second I got her leash out. (In this cold, we've been letting her run loose in the backyard, but she still prefers her walks.) There was a little power struggle in the beginning, but before we even got to Greenview she knew she was not going to be able to just run. I thought Joey might be able to take a nap, but boy was I wrong. I'm used to just walking with Ginny, so I never noticed how uneven the sidewalks are. And since it's 55 and we had probably 8 inches of snow on the ground, there were puddles (and lakes!) everywhere. But we managed through it, and Joey is now peacefully sleeping in the bassinet of his pack 'n play. (I'm going to start transitioning him from the bouncy chair, since his congestion seems to be getting much better.)
This picture was taken after we got home, just as I was about to take Joey out of the car seat. I love the way the light hits his cheek, and that smile is priceless. Just for comparison, take a look back at my Dr. Feelgood or Kung Fu Fighting posts. He's growing like a weed!
So you can see we're still doing the dress up thing. It's actually fun to put him in all his cute clothes. Today, though, we had an overflow diaper (fortunately only number one), so we had to change. And wouldn't you know it - we fit in our 3-6 month clothes! (Double entendre for the title, in case you didn't figure it out - changing diapers and changing clothes sizes.) Thanks again, Aunt Rachel, for the cute green track suit. At least I think it's from Aunt Rachel. Maybe Aunt Shelley? Who gave what to Joey for Christmas is all a little fuzzy.
We're also having a bit of trouble sleeping today. Only took an hour nap this morning at 8, and then another hour nap at 1 this afternoon. And the afternoon nap was only after I lay down with him for over an hour beforehand. Needless to say, we're a little cranky right now. You wouldn't know it from the pictures, though - they were taken this morning.
So in an effort to have more pictures to post and get use out of all his clothes, I dressed Joey "up" again today. Actually, I find I feel a bit more "successful" when Joey isn't in his pj's all day. Something about getting dressed makes it feel like we accomplished something. And at this point I'll take any little victory I can.
I also didn't realize until Regis and Kelly came on that we should be wearing red tomorrow to support the Go Red For Women movement and help the fight against heart disease. Consider today's outfit our support. (Sorry, a 3-month-old only has so many red outfits, and we wore both this week already. Maybe I can find some socks.)
Special thanks to Uncle Jim and Aunt Deb for the outfit.
So things have been a little busy around here, and I haven't had a chance to post pictures as often as I'd like. (Apparently, not as often as the throngs of adoring fans, either.) So here you go, Aunt Rachel ... not only a new picture, but one in which Joey's wearing the moose sweatshirt you got him! And don't worry, Mom, he's wearing socks.
Side note: I really like this sweatshirt. Mostly because it doesn't have a hood on it. I mean, the little hoodies they make are completely adorable, but they're not very practical. What does a baby do all day? Sleep or play, mostly on his back. So either he's lying on the hood, or it's up over his head (which mine doesn't really like). That's not to say he doesn't or won't wear the hoodies, just a note to any baby clothes designers out there - be practical.
